Sometimes, we hold onto things that bring us more pain than joy—conversations, contacts, and connections. It’s so easy to get caught up in the past, rereading old messages and exchanges that sting our hearts. We tell ourselves, “Maybe this time it will feel different,” or “I don’t want to lose this.”

But the truth is, some words and interactions will always cut deep, no matter how much time passes. There are people we once cared about who now only drain our spirits each time we remember or think of them. Removing them from our lives, whether temporarily or permanently, is an act of self-care.

It’s not about bitterness or vengeance. It’s about self-preservation. About focusing our energy on the present, on the new memories and bonds growing in our lives. On the people who lift us rather than tear us down.

So delete those damaging dialogues; block or mute harmful accounts. Do what you need to create a space of light and love. Don’t cling to what hurts you simply because it’s familiar. Don’t let toxic thoughts occupy your mind rent-free.

Clear out the darkness. Tend gently to your wounds so they may heal. Then open your windows and let the sunshine in.

There is so much joy still to be found and so much beauty waiting to be created. Don’t live in the shadow of old pain.

Step thoroughly into the light of new possibilities.
